The Black Knights' Recruiting Wire
Today kicked off Black Friday around the nation and for the Army Black Knights, there are several prospects that would make up their Holiday Recruiting Wish List.
And no other place encapsulates news, along with the notes about the recruiting targets pertinent to Army fans better than GoBlackKnights.com and here are a few to keep an eye on.
Devlin Brennan, OL
"Army has offered me, but now I'm just waiting on making a decision (college). I'm keeping everything open for everyone that has maintained contact with me."
GBK comments: Brennan is one of two OL prospects that we have on our list and although he has yet to schedule an official visit to Army, he has visited unofficially in July. The 6-foot-3, 275 pounder, who will be visiting Bucknell next weekend, is one local that the staff is hoping to pull in.
Solo Ceesay, DE
"I like Army because I really like the defensive line coach ... Coach Mumford (John). He's been a great guy for me and he's like a mentor and you can look up to him. He calls often and I really like Army."
Dakota Deyent, OL
"I'm pretty interested in Army ... actually on the high side. I think they are a pretty school and I can't wait visit them. I haven't set up a time yet, but I plan on it after I take the SAT's again in January."
GBK: Currently, the Black Knights are the only school to offer Deyent, who is now hearing from Elon and Stetson, who the big lineman has visited unofficially.
Taylor Driggers, DE
"My top three school and in not particular order are Troy, Memphis and Army. I'm just trying to weigh everything out and make a calculated decision .... trying to see everything. For me it's about good football program, good school and the opportunities after football/graduation."
GBK:The 6'2", 250 pound defensive end is one of several quality players at this position that the Army staff is trying receive a pledge from. Drigger has been high on the Black Knights for some time now, and our guess is that they have the slight edge.
5. Cody Moorhead, DE
"I think it's a great place, a lot of great people and great coaches. It's a great area, it's a heck of a school and they are moving in the right direction, so my interest is pretty good. But I also have interest in Air Force and Wyoming.
GBK: The 6'4", 260 pound is looking to lock down an official visit to West Point in January. Moorhead's size and tenacity are just what the doctor has order for the Black Knights. He has the athleticism to play on the edge, but also the frame to add 15-25 pounds to be equally as effective on the inside. A must get for the 2013 Army recruiting class.
6. Logan Neitzke, DE
"I'm pretty interested in Army. One of my main thoughts about Army is the opportunity after. Special Forces is a route that I could take and something I wanted to do since I was pretty young, actually. I just really want to go visit so I can see what it's like, because I want to make sure that I would be comfortable there. Actually, recently I just talked to a cadet that's from my area, who came to my school and from what he had to say it seem like something I would like to do. It could be challenging, but also very rewarding."
GBK: After the Army-Navy game, Neitzke is anticipating a visit from recruiting coordinator Tucker Waugh and from that point look for the defensive end prospect to schedule a visit. Pulling in Neitzke, would be on par with the Black Knights current DE commit, Andrew McLean.
7. Kevin Sundberg
"My interest in Army is high and you can get a much better offer than West Point. That's an amazing deal for me, it's such a prestigious school and it's a honor."
GBK: The 6-foot-2 1/2, 280 pounder has amazing upside and a clone of former Army defensive tackle standout, Mike Gann. Picking up Sundberg would be a huge feather in the 2013 recruiting cap.
8. Marcus Ward, DB
"I'm still interested in Army and I'm hoping to take an official up there. I haven't really planned it, but it one the places that I do want to see. So I'm definitely still interested. But we are still in-season right now, so I'm not actively or fully committed yet to my recruiting. This is the 3rd round of the playoffs and we play Hoover tonight ... it's a big rivalry game."
GBK: Ward would be a big time pick-up for the Black Knights, should that come to past. The first step is to ensure that the talented defender makes his way to the West Point campus for an official visit, which would add value to his perspective of what Army football and the academy are all about.
9. Tyler Williams, Athlete
"I have a pretty good relationship with Coach Guyader (Andy) ... he's the one recruiting me from Army. We talk pretty often -- about once or twice a week. He's come down to visit a few times, so Army is definitely up there. I plan to go visit them this offseason ... sometime in December or January. Once I go out there, I will kind of see where I stand."
GBK: Williams is an outstanding athlete, whereby the Oro (Ariz.) Ironwood Ridge High School prospect's productivity has college recruiters projecting him at various roles at the next level. Williams has the natural ability to excel on either side of the ball. Williams' athleticism and versatility make him a top recruiting priority for the Army coaching staff.
