June 27, 2011Nashville, Tenn., native and 2012 defensive end prospect Caleb Azubike has taken to the road this summer and attended several camps. And his offers' list has also remained active.
The 6-foot-5 and 240-pound Azubike had collected recent offers from Mississippi State and Louisville following camp showings at those schools.
"After I went to Mississippi State's camp, I went to Louisville but that was it," said Azubike. "Louisville offered me after camp and then Purdue also offered me that same day. I may go see Tennessee and Virginia Tech, too, sometime in July but I am not sure yet."
And getting that opportunity to showcase his talent has been a welcomed opportunity.
"It's been really great to see new schools," said Azubike, who had 70 tackles and 17 sacks last year. "I liked visiting Mississippi State and Louisville and their campuses and programs were much better than I expected them to be. So I am grateful to have those opportunities and those experiences."
Also owning offers from the likes of Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Boston College, Miami and Northwestern among others, Azubike has maintained a pair of favorites for much of his recruitment.
"Vanderbilt and Boston College are still in my Top 2," said Azubike. "Then I would say Mississippi State is right behind those two. Mississippi State has been recruiting me hard ever since I got their offer."
Azubike added that academics and early playing time will be factors for his college decision.
"The first thing is academics and making sure that is also the most important thing to the coaches," said Azubike. "I want to major in pre-med and biology so that is a big factor for me. Then I want to see if I can play as a true freshman or have to redshirt. I really want to see how dedicated the coaches are to helping me reach my academic and my athletic goals."
And that decision, said Azubike, could be known in the near future.
"I am looking to maybe commit soon," said Azubike. "I want to have it over with before the summer is out and that is why I am looking at schools more in depth now and seeing what all they have to offer from an academic and athletic standpoint."
