UDUBNation.com takes a look at some of the more important numbers from the opener against San Diego State. Stats don't always tell the whole story but they're an important part of it.

This should be a weekly feature at UDUBNation.com after the Dawgs play on Saturday, so stay tuned for more. Now, here's what stuck out to us from the stat sheet against the Aztecs.

The Good

  • The Huskies won the first quarter 14-0 and the third quarter 7-0. In other words, after coming out of the locker room and hearing the coaches' message they had a three touchdown advantage. We will see if that becomes a trend this year. On the flipside, San Diego State won the second and fourth quarters 12-0.

  • The Dawgs were +2 in turnover margin and you'll take that every time. Seldom does a team post that kind of margin and lose the game. The Huskies did put it on the turf once but that's going to happen every now and then.

  • Washington was 9 of 15 on Third Down Conversions, good enough for a 60-percent clip. It's impossible to expect them to post a number like that for the entire season, but they will need to against LSU to have a chance at the monumental upset in Baton Rouge.

  • The defensive coaches brought the heat and the Dawgs brought down Ryan Katz four times. That kind of pressure is something opponents will have to prepare for all season long. UW did a good job of disguising some of their looks.

  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins' 9 catches for 84 yards are a thing of beauty. Any quarterback with a big target like that, and at times an outlet when things break down, is going to be spoiled. You can't underestimate him.

The Bad

  • The line play. This was entirely unexpected, but they surrendered 3 sacks and only paved the way for 106 yards on the ground.

  • Price's 6.3 yards per attempt and 8.9 yards per completion. One of the best indicators of an offense's overall success is that last number. When it's in the 8.9 range, as it was, it means you aren't getting the ball downfield well enough or putting enough pressure on the secondary.

  • The kicking game. It wasn't atrocious but the only field goal attempt was missed and while two punts were downed inside the 20, two went for touchbacks. The Dawgs also only averaged 15.7 yards per kickoff return, a number that needs to improve by a lot.

  • 199 yards on 40 carries. San Diego State's rushing stats. The Huskies have to get tougher up the middle or other teams will exploit that in a big way.
