This Friday, the Washington football team takes on California at Berkeley. It's a homecoming for defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi, who is in his first year coaching at Washington since being at Cal.
But Lupoi isn't really thinking about the homecoming. He's thinking about how his Washington defensive line is going to do.
"Excited for the team and our unit, the d. line, to continue their progress," Lupoi said.
When asked about how he thinks it's going to be to arrive back at California, Lupoi answered that he hadn't really thought about it. Instead, he went straight into how it's a shorter week for the team so there's a huge emphasis on focus and preparation.
Lupoi isn't using this week as focus on himself.
He's making sure this week is about the team doing whatever it takes to win on the road.
"For us, it's another Pac-12 game," Lupoi said. "It's going to be a tough competition, there's a lot of talent on the field we got to face and they do a nice job. They have a lot of offense to prepare for."
So, the focus this week is: preparation and execution.
The focus this week is not: Lupoi back at Cal, recruiting or any other things that don't involve the game itself.
"We got to focus on the task at hand, that's priority number one," Lupoi said.
