January 13, 2013One of the most coveted uncommitted recruits on the West Coast has made his college decision. After finding out that he had been admitted to Stanford, Austin Hooper made a verbal commitment to the Card on his official visit to the school.
"Ya, I committed," Hooper told Cardinal Sports Report in a text on Sunday morning.
Hooper chose Stanford over offers from Oregon, Washington, Cal, and numerous others. Though several schools were recruiting the De la Salle product to play defensive end, he will enter Stanford as a tight end.
Hooper, whose uncle is former Cardinal fullback Greg Hooper, had long held Stanford among his favorites. He burst onto the Cardinal radar after a standout performance at the Card's Friday Night Light's camp this summer.
But Stanford faced significant competition. Oregon and Washington were thought to be Hooper's leaders at one point, and the hometown school, Cal, was also a factor.
In reality, Stanford was always a major consideration with Hooper, and once he was admitted, it didn't take him long to pull the trigger on a commitment.
Hooper is Stanford's 11th public verbal commitment in the 2013 recruiting class. The Card will likely add a few more recruits before signing day.
Stay tuned to Cardinal Sports Report for more on Hooper's decision and all things Stanford football recruiting as signing day approaches.
