Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
Romar Opening Statement
Well, I thought that was a good team win. That's an explosive offensive basketball team and I thought we did a pretty good job of being physical and defending them. Dewayne Dedmon is a heck of a basketball player, he's really good. Aside from that, I thought we did a pretty good job. We were patient offensively, we had five unforced turnovers early and with the exception of a couple bad ones later I thought we took care of the ball. We had only 12 turnovers. Scott Suggs had his third consecutive really good basketball game, but obviously Jernard Jerreau came out and didn't play like a freshman. Him and Andrew Andrews, Andrews didn't have quite the scoring game but he did have eight rebounds, five offensive. They gave us great minutes off the bench today.
I am very happy with his decision making. The reason Jernard was starting early in the year is because he's so versatile. He can make plays. I said that earlier in the week, he's a playmaker. As the game went on, Shawn Kemp did a pretty good job against Eric Wise who's a load to deal with. But Jernard probably did the best job of defending Eric so his length was there to help us. Jernard, he made shots, you have to guard him, he drove to the basket. He'll get us to the bonus. He just did a lot of good things.
On Jernard's aggressiveness tonight
It's the most aggressive I've seen him with a purpose. Earlier in the year he would go, but wasn't quite sure what he was going to do. This particular game he went with a purpose. And just about every time he drove with contact and went to the foul line a lot.
On the free throws
We started out 0-5 I believe. Shawn hit the first one and barely went in then Jernard went to the line after that. Then CJ, then Abdul, and we began to knock them down.
I just think we played with energy. A lot of good things happen as a byproduct of the foundation of playing with energy. You go out and play with energy and all of a sudden you get the loose balls, you get the rebounds. You're just more dialed in and that may have been the case for us.
On the bench
23 points off the bench. That's pretty good. Like I said, it was a really good team victory.
Sr., Scott Suggs
On the final game on Saturday
It hasn't really hit me yet but the game should be fun. It's been a good five years. It won't be the end of the year, but it will be the last time I play at home so it will be special.
Fr., Andrew Andrews
On Fontan being hurt
I didn't know he was hurt, I was just trying to help the team in any way that I could. I wasn't doing much on offense so I figured my defense could help us.
I just don't want to run 17's for not rebounding, so I just go to the boards. It's not so much as a threat that I'll have to run if I don't, it's more that I set a goal for myself to crash a certain amount of times and I try to hold myself to reaching that goal every single game.
On the team being on a roll (like the beginning of conference season)
We're just trying to play consistent. We don't look at streaks, we just take the games as they come and try our best to go out there and play hard. We don't pay too much attention to how many games me lose in a row or how many games me win in a row; we treat each game as an individual game. We're just trying to play as hard as we can.
Feeling like the team regained something
Not at all. After every single game we felt like we could have done something to prevent those losses. The games that we did win, we still felt like we made some bad defensive and offensive decisions, so we just take those games and try to learn from them. We don't have the type of group to try to be front runners when we win, and when we don't just hang our heads thinking we aren't doing very well.

On the team rolling in the right direction
Yes we're definitely getting close to playing the way that we're supposed to play, especially at the right time. Our team usually does it but we start a little late; it seems like we're starting to get the ball rolling.
On the team's free throws turning around in the second half of the game
Jernard stepped up big tonight and hit his free throws. He's been capable of doing that all year and he stepped up tonight at the right time, helping us get the win.
On being face guarded during the game
I was expecting it but when Scott gets going it makes things a lot easier on me. They have to focus on him a lot more and I can just take the play while Scott gets the shots to put points on the board. It takes a lot of pressure off of me.
On how different USC played with Dedmon
USC played completely different, Dedmon is a force under the basket. He has a lot of offensive rebounds, he dunks, and he hits three's. He played a good game and definitely makes a difference on the floor.
USC Head Coach Bob Cantu
On the game:
The biggest thing was we got out-rebounded 48-29. There were a lot of long rebounds and they did a great job getting the basketball, which gave them extra possession. We held them at 36% from the field, but we weren't able to get stops at the right time and they were able to open up the game, which I thought was a big part. I thought we played well, but to win on the road and to win at Washington you have to play a lot better.
Preparing for Washington State:
They're a different type of team than Washington. They run great offense. We have two days here, so we have to regroup, watch film and see things that we need to work on individually and then put together our game plan for WSU on Saturday. I told our guys that look, we got one game left and then we go to Vegas [for the Pac-12 tournament]. In our situation and what our record is, we got to be able to take advantage of going to Vegas and see what we can do. We got one more opportunity to work on our stuff until that gets started.
Sr., Jio Fontan
On deciding to play:
We've been on the road and I didn't want to not be a part of the outcome tonight. I put myself out there and tried to do the best I could. In the second half they caught on to me not having the right hand.
On Dewayne Dedmon's game:
He had a good game today, one of his biggest games. When we got to the rim, he did a good job of getting offensive rebounds and putting them back in.
On whether this game is a "step back":
It's more like a wake up call. We just have to do a better job of taking care of business early. We had them at a distance early in the game. We felt comfortable and let them off the hook.
On UW's free throws:
At the seven minute mark the fouls were eight to two. We have to do a better job of making the fouls more obvious in the paint. But it seemed like when they got to the free throw line they were knocking them down every time.
