Bruins Battle Cougars

The resurgent UCLA Bruins (8-10, 3-3) will face the Washington State Cougars (14-5, 4-3) at 1:00 Saturday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion. The Cougars played their best game of the year on Thursday night in defeating USC 67-60 while the Bruins defeated Washington 62-61 in a stirring last second victory.

Perhaps the most encouraging thing about the Bruins victory on Thursday was their execution of the zone. We now expect this aggressive 2-3 zone to be utilized extensively by Ben Howland for the rest of the year, including this game against WSU. Washington had major problems penetrating the Bruins defense and the hope is that WSU will have the same fate.

WSU is coached by the highly regarded Ken Bone who is in his first year at WSU, but has coached at various places in the state of Washington for the last twenty years. Bone has a very young team that is perimeter oriented. The roster has only one senior and no juniors.
