DT says early decision is possible

Maurice Hurst Jr. has always thought highly of Boston College and the Eagles only helped their chances when they became the first school to offer him nearly a month ago.

Now that some time has passed and the Xaverian prospect has taken two more visits to the local school BC appears to be in great shape.

After the junior day at the end of January Hurst told EagleAction.com that BC was ahead of the competition. This past weekend Hurst took an unofficial visit to Boston College, as did Tevin Montgomery and John Montelus, to take in a basketball game and interact with the coaches a little bit more.

"I liked it a lot," Hurst explained. "I got to spend some time with the other players from Massachusetts, John and Tevin.

"We had met each other a couple of times and they (the coaches) were trying to get all of us together. We get along really well."

How was this trip different than the junior day, aside from the basketball game?

"Once you get an offer from a school it kind of gives you a whole new perspective on how you view it," he explained. "You're thinking, 'This is where I could be spending four years of my life.'

"They actually added a new defensive line coach, Al Washington, who played there recently. We got along instantly. I still believe Sean Devine is recruiting me but we just started talking. He got here last week."

The coaches made it a point to tell the weekend's visitors that they would love for them to form the nucleus of their 2013 class.

"I think they definitely want all of us to come together and kind of start it off for them. They want us to come play for our home town school. They don't think we should go anywhere else when BC is right in our backyard."

Is that a pitch that appeals to Hurst?

"Well BC's definitely at the top for me," he noted. "I just want to wait it out a little longer but I could see myself committing there soon."

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound prospect also offered his thoughts on how the other two visitors seemed to like the school.

"I know Tevin really likes it," he said. "John's a little bit more national (as a target) but he could end up with them, too."

Hurst now has verbal offers from BC, UConn, Purdue and UMass.
