The Numbers Game: Oregon

As many obvious conclusions as we could draw from the stat sheet after Washington's big win over Stanford, the numbers may have been even more telling Saturday night.

The Good

  • Bishop Sankey had another big-time outing with 25 carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns and overall the Dawgs rushed for 208 yards on 46 carries.

  • Washington was 8/15 on third down and you'll take that number every single time.

The Bad

  • Keith Price was 19/31 for 145 yards with no touchdowns. The Huskies' signal caller isn't going to approach the numbers he put up last year and Washington had no chance against the Ducks' high octane offense unless Price scored and scored a lot.

  • 21-0. That was the score at the end of the first quarter. Washington had played the Ducks somewhat tough for the past couple of years before Oregon had pulled away. And that's how you have to beat them. You aren't going to compete when you're down three scores after 15 minutes in Autzen. And it didn't have to be that bad. Miscues did the Dawgs in.

  • -3. The Dawgs lost the turnover battle and that can't happen if you want to be competitive in that contest.

  • Washington was penalized eight times for 102 yards, indicating a lack of mental focus. When you turn it over five times and give up 102 yards in penalties the coaches are never going to be happy.

  • Red zone offense. Both teams reached the red zone five times. Washington scored 21 total points and Oregon came out of those situations with 31 points. Twice the Huskies left with nothing.
