Seferian-Jenkins adds new role

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been getting some reps on the other side of the ball lately. For a few snaps at least, Seferian-Jenkins gets to switch from tight end to defensive lineman.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian said he does this to generate a pass rush, and it's something they'll continue to work on, but only use if it fits the game plan.

When asked what he thinks about having his tight end taken away, quarterback Keith Price responded with a whatever-it-takes-to-win attitude. He laughed as he said that he thinks Seferian-Jenkins could be one of the best defensive linemen in the Pac-12 if he really works at it, and he's already one of the best tight ends in the nation, so, yeah, Seferian-Jenkins is athletic to say the least.

With this has come some joking from other players - particularly wide receiver Kasen Williams.

Williams has joked that maybe he should give defense a try as well.

Sarkisian smiled as he said that he's thought for awhile that Williams could be a good safety, but they're already set at that position.

Price wasn't too sure about that switch, and didn't seem to quite agree with his coach.

But not to worry, he won't be losing Williams to the defense any time soon. If anything, he might gain a defensive player, safety Shaq Thompson, in the future as a tailback behind Bishop Sankey. And Seferian-Jenkins, well, his obvious role is at tight end, where he'll stay. He just might be getting a few more looks from the other side, too.
