Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
Opening Statement:

With the exception of Washington State playing against Arizona in the last game, this is kind of how their games have gone for them. They've competed extremely hard and fallen short down the stretch that's kind of what happened here today. We are aware of that and we knew we had to come out and play really good. I thought our guys did a lot of good things. I thought we competed especially hard in the second half. I thought we had a lot of energy on defense we were getting up in the lanes. We were able to force 18 turnovers and score 25 points off of those turnovers, so that was refreshing to see. I thought our bench did a really good job. The numbers might not bear it but their activity, the things they did at the key moments really helped us. And obviously Scott Scuggs and CJ scored the ball really well today. I thought it was a really good team win for us.

On his talk with Scott before the ASU game and what's changed:

We talked before the Arizona State Game, just about the type of mentality he has to have going out on the basketball floor. Sometimes we can go out on the floor and think if my shot is going everything is good, if not everything is not that good. And you don't win the game if you don't make baskets, but so many other things that go on during a basketball game that you can help with, so I just think it his approach was really good. He's had too pretty good performances.

On if Scott playing well helps the whole team:
I've said for quite some time, none of us have to have our best game of the year, we just have to go out and play at the level we are capable of playing. If we are doing that on the same night I think we can be really competitive with anyone, but we haven't had that consistency this year.

Sr., Abdul Gaddy
How would you summarize the start of the second half and how you were able to rally?

Defense. We started to get stops. We knew once we took care of the ball on the offensive end we could get good shots.

Do these wins against WSU mean anything more than any other win?

I think it means more to the fans. You take it more personal because it is a Washington school. Us as players, we want to win any game. I don't think it means anything more than wins we have had before. We want the fans to enjoy themselves. We take pride in trying to go out there and play hard each game.

Can you talk a little about Scott and how him playing better is opening up things for other players?

Me being the quarterback on the floor, you got to have two wide receivers ready to catch the ball. When Scott gets going the defense has to focus more on him, Then CJ gets more wide open. And we got guys like Shawn scoring and Aziz. It just opens up the floor that much more for everyone else.

Soph., Desmond Simmons
What did try to do against Brock Motum?
To be real physical with him. My teammates helped me a lot, calling out screens early. When we know what's going on, on defense, and they call out screens early I can get through them easier. Just being physical and determined; not letting him touch the ball.

Jr., C.J. Wilcox
Was this one of the games where you were just feeling it?
I'm still not hitting threes. Just being aggressive definitely helps

Did you feel in a better rhythm earlier? Did the week off help you or hurt you in any way?

I felt like I was in more of a rhythm. I practiced the last few days so that definitely helps. That's the main thing. Sitting out and then coming in at full speed is tough to do. So just having reps in practice definitely helps me.

You guys started off 4-0 and are now 8-8. How close are you to where you thought you would be?

After the 4-0 start this isn't where we thought we would be. We knew we had a lot of tough games coming up and we dropped the ball on some games that we should have won. So that kind of sets us back. We are trying to get hot at the right time. We want to take these last few games and get in a rhythm and take it as far as we can.

WSU Head Coach Ken Bone
Overview:

The kids played hard, but we made mistakes, on the offensive end especially. At the end of the game they were critical mistakes that gave Washington the opportunity to have more possessions than we had, and that makes it difficult to win ball games.

On turnovers:

We did a pretty good job on the glass against a team that has been rebounding very well, most of it was just taking care of the ball. It was frustrating because usually we take care of the ball better than that. If that was how we played all the time, we would just say that's who we are, but we don't average 18 turnovers per game.

On Washington's defense:

I think Washington did a good job defensively, pressuring the ball and denying. But we didn't adjust. I think the fatigue factor might have set in. It just looked like sometimes we lacked the energy to really get open.

On fast start both halves:

I thought our guys did some good things. There was some very good minutes of basketball that our guys played. But at the end of the day we didn't take care of business down the stretch, Washington made plays, and we didn't.

On turnover on late inbounds pass:

There were a couple of different options. The first was to Brock, second to Royce. Washington defended it pretty well and took away those options and the five seconds went quickly. Before you know it, he had to throw the ball in.

On Brock Motum's game:

They did a good job on him, but he did a good job too. I think Brock did a nice job of maintaining his composure and letting the game come to him. At the same time, after 40 minutes he scored 18 points for us. Our guys did a good job of getting him the ball in certain situations.

On defensive performance:

I thought we had some great possessions. They scored seven points off shot fakes where we went for the block shot, they made a nice little shot fake, one bounce, and pull-up. Those hurt you after playing good defense for 30 seconds.

On playing through losing streak:

It's hard to lose a game, then lose the next game and lose the next game. But I think our team is handling it well, all things considered. They're not excited or giddy about it. They'll be back at practice tomorrow, they'll work hard, and we'll go out Wednesday and play hard in the game. They're doing the best they can.

Soph., Royce Woodridge
Can you sum up the frustration, especially with the turnovers?

We're definitely frustrated. We came out and we played well at the beginning. If you take some of the turnovers away I feel like it would have been a lot different of a game. We have to keep our heads up. We have two more games next week, and then we have the Pac-12 Tournament. So we're going to go home, work on eliminating so many turnovers and just keep working.

On close losses

We're not getting blown out, that's what I always say. And we're just going to keep our heads up and stay confident because every game is close, so if we tweak a couple of different things, those four-point losses can turn into four-point wins. So we're just going to keep our heads up and keep grinding because we feel we can still turn this season around. It hurts to lose, especially all these in a row, but we're not going to keep our heads down. We know we can play with anybody so we're going to keep working.

On turnovers

We had a lot of turnovers today, unfortunate errors and mental mistakes. We need to work on being more mentally strong, and I take a lot of responsibility for that type of stuff because I am the point guard so definitely going to go home and get my head right and make sure that does not happen again.

Soph., DaVonte Lacy
On turnovers

I mean, you can't say it was Washington because we play against the pressure in practice. A lot of them were unforced, so I think it was a lack of focus and not knowing what to do. On the last turnover I didn't have a timeout and I was trying to get it in, so it was hard with them coming. They cut off Brock (Motum) then we had another option, then one more option and they were switching and it was hard to get through it all. It was rough but there are no excuses.

On shooting

We shot pretty well today. We're a good shooting team. We came out hot and stayed hot for the most part, but Washington was just hotter down the stretch. They hit some big shots, (Scott) Suggs, Abdul (Gaddy) and (CJ) Wilcox. Those three carried them down the stretch.
