Washington's fifth commitment in the 2023 class was reserved for a local prospect. Puyallup-Emerald Ridge defensive end Jacob Lane announced his pledge to the Huskies on Monday after a weekend spent on campus with his team for UW's passing tournament.

The Huskies have been gaining momentum as the likely landing spot for the 6-foot-5 prospect even after he used his first official visit on a trip to Arizona two weekends ago. Ultimately, Lane picked the in-state program over offers from schools such as Utah, Cal, San Diego State, Colorado State and others.

His commitment is the second in as many years from a player at Emerald Ridge following receiver Denzel Boston's decision to stay home and play for the Huskies as a member of the 2022 class.

Lane quickly becomes the second highest-rated commitment for UW in Kalen DeBoer's first class with the program behind four-star receiver Rashid Williams, who committed to the Huskies almost exactly one month ago.

So far, UW has loaded up on offensive players in the five-man class with three of the first four commits being skill position players on that side of the ball. Lane is the first commitment in the trenches on either side of the ball as well as the second defensive prospect in the class joining California linebacker Deven Bryant.

Lane is expected to take his official visit with the Huskies this weekend as he makes a return to campus.

Keeping local talent home in Washington will be key for the new coaching staff, and Lane is just one of the in-state targets for DeBoer and his staff. The Huskies signed three in-state recruits in the 2022 class with Sumner safety Tristan Dunn and Tumwater tight end Ryan Otton both joining Boston as the prospects to remain home for college.

The Huskies are set for a big week of visits that will include in-state prospects such as Kennedy Catholic offensive lineman Micah Banuelos and Ferndale offensive lineman Landen Hatchett.
