It took 23 days from the time Ethan Garbers received his offer from Washington, to when he became the most important commitment in the 2020 recruiting class.
When Garbers, a 6’3 and 190-pound junior quarterback from Newport Beach, California, made his pledge to UW head coach Chris Petersen on March 4 it signaled just the start of what was, and still is to come.
Since making his decision the four-star Corona Del Mar signal-caller has been busy handling his recruitment . . . of several other four-star recruits. Garbers has assumed the role that four-star offensive lineman Nate Kalepo did for UW in last years’ recruiting class as the lead recruiter.
On Saturday, Garbers crossed the first name off his list: Mark Redman. The four-star tight end and fellow high school teammate of the Huskies QB commit made his decision while on an unofficial visit, but had a feeling things were trending towards UW prior to his trip.
“It’s been great,” Redman told Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney at the Adidas West Coast Invitational.
“Speaking with coach (Jordan) Paopao, coach (Bush) Hamdan and coach (Chris) Petersen, they’re all great guys. I love the staff up there, love the city, love UDub, pretty much just love everything about the place.”
Redman, listed at 6’6 and 245-pounds, is the second four-star recruit TE coach Jordan Paopao has landed as an assistant under Chris Petersen. Paopao previously signed Hunter Bryant in 2017 as a four-star out of Eastside Catholic HS (Bellevue, Wash.) while also having coached another four-star, Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
