SEATTLE – Roughly 870 miles separate Orem High School and Husky Stadium, covering four states total from Utah through Idaho and Oregon, before entering Washington.
Yet snow played a role for both the Husky hopeful, waiting to hear where four-star wide receiver Puka Nacua would choose to sign, and for the No. 152 overall prospect in the 2019 class when it came to arriving at the KSL TV studios in Salt Lake City late Sunday night.
After informing one of the coaching staffs involved in his recruitment Tuesday that Nacua would sign with UW, he stuck by that decision and announced he will sign with the program.
Nacua is the 23rd member of the Huskies 2019 recruiting class, one that with his addition includes 14 four-star recruits. He joins three-star Upland (Calif.) WR Taj Davis as the second receiver for the class.
UW did not graduate any of its receivers following the 2018 season. During his National Signing Day press conference last Wednesday, head coach Chris Petersen said the staff works within an expected number they will take, but it’s never firm.
Petersen also noted that recently hired WR coach Junior Adams, who came to UW after a brief time at Appalachian State after spending three seasons as the WR coach / offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky under coach Mike Sanford.
