SEATTLE – UW now has a trio of four-star defensive back commitments headed to Husky Stadium for next season.

The Huskies landed coveted four-star St. John Bosco High School (Bellflower, California) safety / cornerback Trent McDuffie, a 5-11 and 175-pound versatile defender with more than 20 scholarship offers.

Washington beat out Alabama, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, Stanford and UCLA for his commitment Wednesday night. The 2019 recruiting class now has 20 spots filled with only two more expected.

McDuffie will join two former high school teammates when he arrives at UW. Sophomore CB Keith Taylor and freshman safety Julius Irvin played at Servite HS (Anaheim, Calif.) with the four-star athlete before he transferred to Bosco.

“I flew up there for an unofficial. I didn’t know too much about Washington actually. Some of my old teammates who are there right now, Julius Irvin and Keith Taylor, and I knew they liked it,” McDuffie told TheDawgReport.com earlier this season on his ties to the UW program.

“They talk to me about it. But probably going up there and seeing the city, talking with the coaches face to face and getting a feel for what they have. I watched a practice – they have a lot of good things in store with them. Definitely know Jimmy Lake is a great coach.”

Lake, the Huskies first-year defensive coordinator in 2018, now has his three four-star commits for the class with McDuffie. He joins a pair of cornerbacks, Asa Turner and Kamren Fabiculanan, along with safety Cameron Williams.

UW's 2019 recruiting class moved up four spots to No. 16 in Rivals team rankings with McDuffie's commitment. The Huskies still sit second in the Pac-12 behind Oregon at No. 7, and right behind their Rose Bowl opponent, the Ohio State Buckeyes, who rank No. 15.

Once again, Lake’s NFL pedigree and proven track record for sending players to the league since coming to UW paid off on the recruiting trail.

“I mean it’s huge. Knowing how successful their defense has been,” McDuffie said. “Knowing that their DB’s have constantly been going to the NFL. That’s a real boost in my interest in them really, and just knowing they want me.”
