Just over eight months ago Washington was in the thick of a recruiting battle with USC over a four-star southern California tight end prospect.

Jack Yary, the son of former Trojan offensive tackle Ron Yary, had been committed to Southern Cal from May to mid-November 2019 before he elected to back away from his pledge.

Last December the four-star Murrieta Valley High School (Murrieta, California) prospect took an official visit to UCLA and Washington, before taking his final official to USC in late January.

At the time Yary had decided to sign with the Trojans on National Signing Day, just 25 days after UW announced the hiring of Derham Cato as tight ends coach. Last month reports surfaced that Yary had left the USC football program.

Shortly thereafter, the four-star tight end posted a photo from his UW official visit captioned “the future” on his Instagram account. One month – almost to the day – later the Huskies officially secured the talented pass catcher.

Yary announced his commitment Tuesday afternoon on his Twitter account. He becomes the second four-star tight end in the 2020 class, joining Mark Redman out of Newport Beach HS and three-star Mason West from La Habra HS.

“Yary Is a massive target at 6-foot-6 and he’s surprising fast and nimble for his size, because he’s legitimately about 250 pounds as well,” said Adam Gorney, Rivals’ national recruiting analyst.

“He didn’t block much in high school because of the spread offense. But he’s huge. He has great hands, is a smooth route runner and should be a really nice addition. For his size, Yary has always shown great speed and soft hands to catch passes.”
