SEATTLE – Not many changes have been made to the depth chart ahead of Saturday’s home opener against Montana since training camp concluded.
Of the notable differences, redshirt freshman Julius Buelow has moved ahead of sophomore Ulumoo Ale as the starting left guard after he made the switch halfway through camp. Buelow had been the back-up right guard behind junior Henry Bainivalu in the spring.
After the third scrimmage in camp UW head coach Jimmy Lake spoke highly of the former four-star lineman.
“He’s played more physical and nasty,” Lake said, “and that’s what has been really exciting that our offensive coaches and myself have seen. He’s playing more confident and playing that nasty physicalness that we want – from everyone on our team, but especially our offensive line.”
Buelow, listed at 6-foot-8 and 330-pounds, was ranked as the No. 4 prospect from Hawaii in the 2019 class and a top 30 offensive tackle by Rivals. He isn’t the only player that Lake and Co. view as potential switch candidate, someone who can play multiple positions.
That much was reflected in the first depth chart.
