Local hoops prospect is major target

Seattle Prep's Josh Martin received an offer from Lorenzo Romar and the Huskies in August of his freshman year of high school.
That's called getting your foot in the door early.

It's not like the Huskies needed to do something like that to make up ground. Martin, now a rising junior from the Class of 2014, has always liked the Dawgs. He goes to games, trains at the school, and has nothing but good things to say about the program.
So if you assumed the Huskies have a great shot with the 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward, you'd be right.
"They're definitely at the top of my list," Martin told UDUBNation.com this week. "I would love to stay home close to my family. I love UDub and I love the coaching staff and the way they play. UDub is a great school. They're on the top of my list."
Martin said he talks to Paul Fortier frequently and Romar once in a while.
While the Dawgs are at the top of Martin's list and have a great shot, this battle's not over yet. Martin said he may not commit until towards the end of his senior season, so we may have a year and a half to go.
He has been in contact with schools like Florida State, UCLA and most of the Pac-12. He has recently also received letters from Texas and Hawaii.
This summer Martin played AAU ball with Friends of Hoop, competing at Las Vegas Live, the Houston Classic, the Emerald City Showcase and tournaments in Oakland and Kansas City.
"I think I improved on my confidence in my ball handling," Martin said. "I've been working on my ability to get to the basket from the three-point line and taking the ball up the floor.
"I've also been working on my quickness, athleticism, agility and strength, because I pride myself on my athleticism."
Ideally Martin said he will be a matchup problem in college with the potential to put the ball on the floor against bigger defenders while backing down and posting up smaller or leaner players.
Are there any schools Martin is anxious to hear from other than Washington?
"No, not really," he said. "There's never really been a school I was anxious to hear from or have contact with.
"It would be cool to have Coach (John) Calipari have my name written down somewhere," he concluded with a laugh.
