Oregon freshman defensive tackle Wayne Kirby has been granted permission to speak with Brigham Young University regarding a potential transfer, sources with knowledge of the situation told Rivals.

Kirby, a 6'3, 315-pound defensive lineman originally committed to BYU during his recruiting process before de-committing on Oct. 13. Rated as a three-star prospect according to Rivals coming out of Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho, Kirby took official visits to Washington State, BYU and Oregon with the Ducks winning out.

The decision for Kirby to consider transferring to BYU is tied to a family issue following his father passing away last summer. The Cougars have always been a school that has stuck by him through coaching changes and that has played a considerable role in his decision to consider transferring to BYU.

Kirby played in nine games in 2016 for former coach Mark Helfrich and appeared to be a key figure in the Ducks defensive line moving forward. Kirby has not decided if he will indeed transfer to BYU, but Oregon has granted him permission to do so if he chooses.
