The game lived up to the billing.

Saturday's matchup between No. 7 Washington and No. 8 Oregon was the first one in 115 meetings in which both team were ranked inside the top 10. There were plenty of College Football Playoff and Pac-12 Conference implications at Husky Stadium, and in the end it was the home team that was able to celebrate with a 36-33 victory.

There were six lead changes Saturday but the last one with under 2 minutes to play was the only one that mattered.

With 2:11 to go and the Huskies down by 4 points, UW quarterback Michael Penix, Jr., the front runner for the Heisman Trophy, orchestrated an impressive quick drive to get the Huskies (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) back out in front.

He hit receiver Ja'Lynn Polk for a 35-yard completion before finding Rome Odunze for an 18-yard touchdown that helped give UW its final 3-point lead with with 1:38 to play.

Oregon (5-1, 2-1) had one last opportunity to either win the game or send the game into overtime, but its final drive stalled out forcing the Ducks to settle for a 43-yard field goal attempt by Camden Lewis that ultimately was missed wide right sealing the UW win.

The Huskies looked to be headed for defeat before their scoring drive.

The Ducks had the ball around midfield with just over 2 minutes to play and ran up the middle on third-and-short before attempting a fourth down play that came up empty handing the ball back to Penix and the UW offense around midfield.

It was one of three fourth-down tries that came up empty for the Ducks on the day with the other two coming in the red zone.

The day started off on the right note for the Huskies as receiver Giles Jackson from 24 yards out to open up the scoring on the day.

From then on, the two teams traded blows eventually leading to a 22-18 lead for the Huskies by halftime.

The back and forth continued into the second half as the Ducks continued to have answers for Washington's scores. Oregon took a 33-29 lead with 12:58 to play after Jordan James scored from 10 yards out on a rushing play.

A turnover on downs for UW followed before Penix and the UW offense was able to make one last effort resulting in the game-winning score.

Penix finished his day with 302 yards passing and 4 touchdowns in the victory while Dillon Johnson had 100 yards on the ground and a score. Polk and Odunze both finished their days with 128 yards and 118 yards receiving, respectively. Polk caught a pair of touchdowns while Odunze hauled in the game-winning pass.

Washington will remain at home next week as it hosts Arizona State.
