UW lost a second defensive lineman Monday night with redshirt sophomore Ricky McCoy announcing he is transferring to Fresno State, returning closer to home due to family reasons.

"Very very tough decision. Love my family, coaches, teammates, and advisors at the University of Washington," McCoy said in a post on Twitter. "Coach Pete and his staff changed my life and he brothers I gained there will forever be a part of me. Serious family issues call for me to be back at home, so I will be finishing my college career in my hometown at Fresno State University. I will definitely take everything I learned and worked for along with me as I continue this journey. Thank you to everyone who played a part in my success here and thank you Husky Nation for having me!"

McCoy played in three games for the Huskies in 2017, against Montana, Fresno State and Washington State, recording one tackle against the Grizzlies in a 63-7 UW victory.

During his recruitment as a three-star tight end out of Roosevelt (Fresno, California) McCoy originally committed to Rich Rodriguez and the Arizona Wildcats. But as his recruitment went on and UA picked up another TE commit, UW tight end coach Jordan Paopao continued to show interest leading to his eventual flip to the Huskies 2015 class.

McCoy also appeared in two games in 2016 against Idaho and Rutgers. He will sit out the 2018 season at Fresno State before playing his final season of eligibility in 2019.
