Just two years after joining the Washington football program wide receivers coach Bush Hamdan is reportedly in line for a position with the Atlanta Falcons, according to a report from The Sporting News.
Hamdan has not accepted the position, reported to be the Falcons quarterback coach, with one source telling Rivals there are still details to be sorted out. After spending his first season as a quality control assistant in 2015, Hamdan was promoted to wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator in 2016.
Washington assistant coaches are based on two-year contracts with Hamdan just finishing year one. A public records request revealed that current UW offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith's contract ended Jan. 31, 2017, and an extension has not been officially completed, according to one source with knowledge of the situation.
The Huskies have yet to announce any raises in coaches salaries or in extensions in the case of Smith, due to logistics and travel to get all parties to sign and not because of potential job offers. However, that does not exempt any UW assistant from taking another job and Hamdan could change some things around on the current staff if he chooses to take the Falcons job.
UW's offense soared this season under Hamdan, Smith and sophomore quarterback Jake Browning averaging over 41 points per game in 2016. Hamdan is considered one of the best recruiters on staff having revived arguably the worst position group in 2015 to potentially the best based off the 2017 recruiting class.
2018 four-star Mission Viejo High School (Mission Viejo, California) wide receiver Austin Osborne committed to Washington last weekend while another Rivals100 wide receiver is expected to visit this weekend in Marquis Spiker.
