Selection Saturday Review: 2019-2020

Over the past five or six years the state of Washington has proven they can put out some of the nations best quarterbacks. During the Selection Saturday event hosted by Jake Heaps and Taylor Barton, several quarterbacks in the 2019 and 2020 class showed well, in what will be without question one of the two best years of quarterbacks the state has produced.

2019 Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline pro-style quarterback Joe Green

At 6'2, 175, Green will be competing for the starting quarterback job at Skyline with freshman Michael Franklin, who also won an invite to the NW9 final. For one of the top prospects in the state for the class of 2019, Green held his own against strong competition and did not make very many poor decisions. He threw a consistent spiral for well over the roughly hour long workout at Kentridge High School and his pocket presence in the figure eight drill was well above his class.

Green is a prospect who come his junior seasons should have at least eight to 10 offers with double that coming after his junior year and heading into his senior season.

2019 Graham (Wash.) Graham-Kapowsin quarterback Dylan Morris

In the 2017 recruiting class Graham-Kapowsin High School is known as the home of five-star offensive tackle Foster Sarell. In two short years it'll be known as the home of what I expect to be a four-star quarterback Dylan Morris. Morris competed in Selection Saturday as an eight grader and now he's getting a chance to compete against the best quarterbacks in the region in August.

Morris has great composure for a young quarterback and proved on Saturday he can make all the throws necessary. A lot of his growth will come simply with getting more snaps and starting to take more control of the Graham-Kapowsin offense.

2019 Snohomish (Wash.) Glacier Peak quarterback Ayden Ziomas

Ziomas is a quarterback who Rivals.com hadn't heard much of heading into the Selection Saturday event and quickly made a name for himself. At 5'10, 150-pounds, he's a little on the smaller side but is still growing and could easily get into that 6'0 to 6'1 range and garner a lot of attention over the next couple of years.

One aspect in his game that stands out the most is his competitiveness. In the rollout drills, out-routes and any other throw he was told to make, he did. The height and hand size don't hurt his game and for a quarterback who is still growing, that's a good trait to have.

2020 Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline quarterback Michael Franklin

Several other NW9 invites will go out over the next couple weeks, but following the event the only incoming freshman to receive an invite was Michael Franklin. Having to compete in the fall against Joe Green, the two went head to head on Saturday and Franklin showed he could make all the throws Green did.

He's already got a strong frame at 6'1, 160, and he's still growing. Being just an incoming freshman at Skyline High School, whether he wins the starting job or not, he's already ahead of several in his class and Franklin will only get better and better with more snaps he takes. Expect him to be one of the top quarterbacks on the West Coast in 2020 when all is said and done.
