SEATTLE – It was all about timing and placement Friday morning as Washington returned to practice for day two of spring football practices.
During an 11-on-11 period, junior quarterback Jacob Eason displayed the arm strength that made him the No. 1 recruit at the position by Rivals in 2016. Named the offensive scout team MVP by his fellow teammates for the 2018 season, Eason has gotten used to finding ways to carve up the Huskies defense.
The former five-star QB completed two 40-plus yard throws, one to redshirt sophomore Terrell Bynum and the second to redshirt freshman Marquis Spiker, both for touchdowns. Junior cornerback Keith Taylor had ideal position and covered both receivers tight, but Eason’s throws were even better.
Taylor made up for the two scores he allowed with a physical pass breakup on a throw from redshirt sophomore Jake Haener to junior tight end Jacob Kizer. Haener also connected with Austin Osborne, another redshirt freshman, for a touchdown on his final drive of the morning.
In all, Friday served as a reminder that UW has talent on both sides coming back this fall. It also means the coaching staff has several position groups that will feature an entirely new starting cast.
The Huskies have to replace both senior starting linebackers, Ben Burr-Kirven and Tevis Bartlett, along with four defensive backs – Taylor Rapp, JoJo McIntosh, Jordan Miller and Byron Murphy, all of whom started in 2018.
