Thompson on prestigious watch list

Junior linebacker Shaq Thompson is one of 47 players on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List heading into the 2014 football season.
That should come as no surprise to Huskies' fans.

"The mission of the Paul Hornung Award is to recognize and reward versatile, high-level performers in major college football (Football Bowl Subdivision team member); to help preserve the legacy of one of Louisville's native sons and sports icons; and to promote Louisville as a great sports town."
That's what the award is all about and Thompson seems to fit the description pretty well.
The 6-foot-2, 231-pound third-year linebacker was one of the nation's top recruits three years ago and heading into his junior season many expect him to compete for All-American honors.
Thompson was an honorable mention All-PAC 12 performer last season, his second time winning that distinction. He was Washington's second-leading tackler with 78 total stops (50 solo) to go along with four tackles for loss, four pass breakups and an interception that he returned 80 yards for a score.
