Tinae Staying Home

Sam Huard won’t have any trouble getting familiar with the first wide receiver commit in Washington’s 2021 recruiting class.

On Sunday, three-star Kennedy Catholic High School (Burien, Wash.) product Jabez Tinae announced his decision to stay home and play for the Huskies. He chose UW over offers from Arizona State, California, Oregon, USC, Utah and others.

Tinae, listed at 6-1 and 175-pounds, is a teammate of Huard’s at Kennedy Catholic and has been one of his most reliable targets dating back their freshman year.

The Huskies offered Tinae on February 13, roughly one month after the talented Lancer took an unofficial visit to the school. He visited the same weekend that Huard and many other in-state targets did in January and once the offer came through it was an opportunity Tinae couldn’t turn down.

With the addition of Tinae the Huskies now hold 13 verbal commitments in the 2021 class.

“I think we’re all very different in our own ways,” Tinae said last December, when asked to describe his game. “I think I’m better after I catch the ball. I have a lot of screen touchdowns – a lot of catches in the air. I can do both.”

Tinae gives the Huskies their fourth in-state commit for this years’ class. He joins five-star quarterback Sam Huard, three-star tight end Caden Jumper and four-star linebacker Will Latu as the three others from the Evergreen State who have decided to stay home.

Three key targets remain in-state; five-star Eastside Catholic High School (Sammamish, Wash.) defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau, five-star Steilacoom wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and three-star offensive lineman Owen Prentice out of O’Dea High School.
