SEATTLE – The two defeats Washington has this season have been by a combined eight points.

Entering week eight the No. 14 Huskies defense has an equal number of turnovers (8). Jordan Miller and Taylor Rapp are the only two players to record an interception in 2018, both coming on the road against Utah and UCLA respectively.

Defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake said after practice Tuesday that UW missed a couple picks against Oregon, a 30-27 overtime result in Eugene, that could have swing momentum back in the Huskies favor.

“That’s our job is to score or get the ball back. We haven’t done it enough this year at all,” Lake said.

“We do ball drills every single day just like we’ve been doing for the last five years. Unfortunately, we just haven’t been able to come down with them. We’ve dropped a few this year. Those would be difference makers.”

Since 2014 at least eight different UW players have recorded an interception each season, peaking in year three under Chris Petersen when the team made its first College Football Playoff run.

UW recorded 19 interceptions in 2016 and added another 14 forced fumbled for a +18 turnover margin at the end of the season.
