UW’s Jon Brockman Named to All-Pac-10 Team

University of Washington sophomore Jon Brockman was named a first-team All-Pac-10 selection and teammate Spencer Hawes was honored as an All-Freshman team member when the Pacific-10 Conference announced its annual men's basketball awards Monday.

Also recognized by the conference was 6-foot-6 forward Quincy Pondexter, who garnered honorable mention freshman team acclaim. The product of San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, Calif. is the Huskies' third-leading scorer at 10.7 points per game. His 321 points are the fifth-highest total ever for a UW freshman.

Brockman, a 6-7 forward, finished the regular season as the leading Pac-10 rebounder with 9.6 per game. His 14 double-doubles lead the league. A graduate of Snohomish (Wash.) High School, Brockman ranks third among Pac-10 players in field goal percentage (54.7%) and 13th in scoring (14.1 ppg).

This is the fourth consecutive season that the Huskies had a first-team All-Pac-10 member, including player of the year Brandon Roy in 2006. Nate Robinson was on the all-conference squad in 2004 and again in 2005, when he was joined by Tre Simmons.

"It's just a great honor. It's one of the highest honors in this league," exclaimed Brockman of his All-Pac-10 selection. "The fact that this league is the number one league in the nation and the fact that there are so many great individual players in this league, makes it a great honor to be on that list."

Since joining the conference in 1916, Washington has placed 84 players on the league's first team. That is the second-highest figure, trailing only UCLA's 106 selections.

Brockman was a member of the conference's All-Freshman team in 2006 and was the Feb. 12, 2007 Pac-10 Player of the Week.

Hawes leads the team and ranks ninth among Pac-10 scorers with a 15.2-point average. The 7-foot center owns two of UW's freshman records with 442 points and 53 blocked shots. Hawes, who hails from Seattle Prep (Wash.) High School, was also an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection. His uncle, Steve, was a first-team All-Pac-8 pick with the Huskies in 1972.

Washington has an 18-12 record and finished seventh in the Pac-10 standings with an 8-10 mark. UW capped the regular season with a 61-51 win over second-ranked UCLA on Saturday (Mar. 3).

The Huskies begin Pac-10 Tournament play, Wednesday, Mar. 7 against Arizona State. Tip-off is 8:42 p.m. at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the game that will be televised live on FSN.
