Until late May, 2019 Upland (Calif.) running back Cameron Davis held zero offers. Following a strong showing at Washington's Rising Stars Camp on Friday, the Huskies extended an offer to Davis, giving him his first FBS offer.
The 6-foot, 180-pound RB picked up his first offer on May 25 from Howard University, who play in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. So, having his first major offer come from UW is something Davis isn't taking lightly.
"It’s huge because UDub is one of my favorite schools," Davis said. "This school is one of my favorites because success in football isn’t the only goal they have for us. Their goal for us is to be the best, whether its on or off the field, and I really like that.
"And it’s big that this is my first major offer because I know now that my recruiting process will start to pick up."
UW running back coach Keith Bhonapha spent the most time with Davis during his visit, with head coach Chris Petersen also meeting with the rising junior. Bhonapha has strong roots in the Inland Empire dating back to his time at Boise State, and UW has pulled several notable recruits from Upland HS including defensive end Joe Mathis.
Davis got a good sense of what to expect if he were to sign with the Huskies while on campus. The meeting with Bhonapha provided some helpful tips on the field as well as life off the field.
"We talked a lot about the game and went over some football stuff and we also talked about how it’s like here," Davis said. "It felt great. I love this area and how the coaches treated me. We have a good relationship. What I like most about him is his philosophy and that no matter what, he plays the best running back at the time no matter what grade he is in."
Davis said Northwestern is also a school that has shown more interest as of late, with other Pac-12 schools expected to take notice of Davis this fall.
As a sophomore Davis ran for 315 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 55 carries, playing in all nine games for Upland last season.
