In his two experiences being around UW coaches and players, 2019 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive end Cole Aubrey has felt the true nature of Washington's family-like atmosphere.
When the junior lineman visited Saturday for the UW-Oregon game it served as an eye-opening experience.
"It was amazing, really felt part of the UW family thanks to the coaches, players, and the staff," Aubrey said after his visit. "The facilities were crazy too and loved the stadium. It was a special place."
The 6'2, 215-pound DL made the trip with teammate Josh Delgado and Tarik Lockett, who plays at JSerra Catholic in San Juan Capistrano, California. It was his first time getting to see Seattle and the UW campus, and witnessing a home game at Husky Stadium.
Boasting the nations No. 1 defense Aubrey got a great idea of how the Huskies operate by holding the Ducks to a lone field goal. While the on-field display impressed the junior DE, the atmosphere might have made a stronger impression.
"The whole stadium was rocking the whole game," Aubrey said. "The fans also seemed liked they really loved their team cuz even through the rain it felt like nobody left.
"Also it was cool seeing for the first time the UW players running out on the field with the purple smoke in the air."
Aubrey also got to reconnect with Huskies DL coach Ikaika Malloe, who he worked with during the summer at one of their SoCal satellite camps. When they met this weekend the conversation continued with Aubrey feeling a high interest in UW after his visit.
"There's no other school like UW out there," he said. "if they offered, that would be huge. They'd be very high on the list and it would be hard to turn an offer from them down."
Aubrey has also visited USC and UCLA this season in addition to Cal and Penn last season.
