Washington is beginning to rebuild its roster for the first season under Jedd Fisch. After adding a pledge from running back Jonah Coleman late Saturday, the new UW staff dipped back into its talent pool from Arizona for two more additions.
Four-star quarterback Demond Williams, who only joined Arizona on campus earlier this month, announced his pledge to the Huskies on Sunday following a visit to the school. Around the same time, Indiana transfer defensive back Jordan Shaw did the same following his own trip to UW.
Shaw, like Williams, arrived on campus at Arizona earlier this month after announcing his decision to transfer in December.
Jedd Fisch gets his quarterback
Williams has been a priority for Fisch and quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Jimmie Dougherty for a few years now. He was one of the first recruits the coaches offered when they arrived at Arizona, and the Chandler (Ariz.) Basha star has built a strong relationship with both coaches.
He feels confident that Fisch and Dougherty have what it takes to develop him into an NFL-level player, and that played a big part in his interest in playing for them while they were at Arizona.
"For them to have that type of faith in me, and never letting up," he told Rivals earlier this month. "Even when I was committed [to Ole Miss], they were still hitting me up all the time just checking up on me and checking up on my family and that just means a lot to me."
He entered the transfer portal earlier in the week and quickly schedule a visit to meet with his coaches at their new home.
The 5-foot-9, 174-pound signal caller had a stellar career as a high school player. He finished his time at Basha with over 10,000 yards passing, 93 passing touchdowns and just 12 interceptions over four years.
Williams participated in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio earlier this month prior to arriving on campus at Arizona, and he shined in the game with three touchdowns. He was ranked by Rivals as a four-star recruit and No. 167 overall in the 2024 class and is a four-star transfer prospect as well.
Shaw finds his new home on Montlake
Shaw was courted by both Arizona and Washington while at St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy in Southern California as a member of the 2023 class. He eventually committed to Colorado where he built a connection with recruiting staffer Armond Hawkins Jr. He later backed off that pledge when Deion Sanders was hired in favor of a move to the Big Ten as a late addition for Indiana.
While at Indiana, Shaw played in four games during his freshman season and made two starts in 2023. He ended his first college season with 12 tackles as he contributed down the stretch.
PFF tabbed the California native as the second-best tackler at Indiana in 2023 with a grade of 86.4.
Though he will come to UW as a sophomore, Shaw will have four seasons of remaining eligibility if he chooses to make 2023 his redshirt year.
