Three-star center Landen Hatchett commits to UW, will join older brother

Landen Hatchett has plenty of familiarity with the Washington football program. The three-star center lives less than two hours away in Ferndale, has visited a number of times and his brother Geirean Hatchett is entering his third season with the Huskies.

That said, the younger Hatchett still felt he got something useful out of taking his official visit last weekend.

"Washington was awesome. Obviously, I've been there multiple times, but they definitely made this experience unique this time around and I had a really good time," he told Dawg Report. "Got to meet with the coaching staff and have one-on-ones with coach [Scott] Huff and coach [Kalen] DeBoer and I really took a lot of information out of that. ...

"Just my one-on-one meeting with Coach Huff, I think being able to sit down with your position coach and being able to talk through your plan and his idea for you if you go there is always good. I think that's kind of the main thing that stood out."

And on Wednesday, Hatchett announced his commitment to the Huskies.

Hatchett's other contenders were Oregon, USC, Michigan and Texas A&M -- all of which he visited in the last month and a half.

Going back to the Washington visit, Hatchett was one of many key targets on campus last weekend, and the Huskies clearly put on a good presentation.

They now landed nine commitments in the last 10 days, and Hatchett understands where the momentum is coming from.

"I think the new staff is really trying to bring the program back to where it was just a few years ago, and I think they're capable of doing it. I think they have all the right pieces, and especially the players in the locker room. They were never bad players ever -- actually really good players --I think they just weren't led the right way, and I think this staff definitely has them moving in the right direction," he said. "I just feel like the energy is higher, just the feel of the locker room and the feel of the guys. They're definitely confident in this coaching staff and the overall energy's up, for sure.

"I think the coaches were selling how they're going to bring UW back to where it was and it's a draw to want to be a part of that, and I think the guys believe that these coaches can [do] it. So I think they just want to hop on board with those coaches and bring UW back to where it was."
