SEATTLE – Washington added a third defensive line commitment to its 2019 recruiting class on Friday.

Jacob Bandes, a four-star defensive tackle from Pittsburg, California, announced his commitment on Twitter shortly after UW head coach Chris Petersen tweeted out his recruiting bat signal at 4:58 p.m. Pacific.

The Huskies already held commitments from three-star DT Noa Ngalu, a 6-2 and 265-pound lineman from Athertcon, Calif., and three-star DT Sama Paama, a 6-4 330-pound interior lineman from Honolulu, Hawaii.

Bandes is ranked as the No. 219 overall recruit for the 2019 class by Rivals. UW now has four four-star recruits secured with a little less than six months until National Signing Day next February.

Rivals also lists the Huskies latest commit as the No. 11 ranked DT for the 2019 class. The Huskies recruiting class moved up nine spots on Rivals team rankings to No. 30 with Bandes' commitment.

Earlier this week TheDawgReport.com spoke with the now-UW bound Bandes about the players he emulates his game after.

“What I like to see my game as is some of the good two defensive tackles that I’ve seen out of Washington. What I try – I don’t know what Washington will see me as – to fit my game as Vita Vea and Danny Shelton,” Bandes said.

“I like to fit my game more as Vita, because he can play d-end sometimes in key moments. He can blow it up in the nose tackle and he does whatever Malloe needs him, and that’s pretty cool. I don’t know what Washington will see me as but that’s what I try to play my game as.”

Bandes has already been selected to play in three high school showcase games after his senior season at Pittsburgh. The four-star DT will play in the Army All-American game held in San Antonio, Texas on January 5, 2019.

Two weeks later Bandes is set to make his first trip to Hawaii for the 2019 Polynesian Bowl, held at Aloha Stadium on Jan. 19, 2019. The annual showcase game in Honolulu, Hawaii has become a popular destination for UW commits since it was established in September 2016.

Former UW OL Olin Kreutz served as one of honorary captains for the inaugural game, which also featured current redshirt freshman left tackle Henry Bainivalu and other Husky commits.

“I’ve never been to Hawaii before and I think this will be a really cool experience. Plus, it’s about football. So how can you say no to that?” Bandes said, when asked what the four-star recruit is looking forward to most about playing in the Polynesian bowl.

“A really beautiful place. With the beautiful sport that you love. It’s going to be really cool to see the culture there and I know a lot of other recruit’s teammates that I know who will be there. So it’ll be fun.”

With the Polynesian Bowl showcasing the nation’s best HS football recruits, there is a reason for excitement with Bandes choosing UW.

In 21 combined games between his sophomore and junior seasons at Pittsburg, the 6-3, 285-pound lineman has 102 total tackles (47 solo, 55 assisted), 27 tackles for loss, 19 QB hurries, 11 sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

But with all the accolades and stats to back his four-star ranking, Bandes said his leadership style is more action than talk.

“Honestly vocal leaders, I don’t really see myself as a vocal leader. Because no one is going to listen to a vocal [leader]. Like, they want to know what you’re about,” Bandes said.

“Let’s say for example Ezekiel Elliot. He’s not really a vocal, he’s more of a shower. And if people didn’t believe him and didn’t see what he was about, then he wouldn’t be able to be a vocal because first you have to be a shower, then be a vocal. Because if you’re all talk and no show then nobody is going to believe you.”

He added, “Everyone’s going to think you’re weak, or you’re going to be a nobody. If you’re a shower, then a vocal people are going to want to listen to you.”
