Four-Star Fort Worth RB Emeka Megwa Choose Washington

During the Covid-19 pandemic recruits across the country had to learn a new way to build relationships with college coaches.

Without the ability to visit campuses everything became virtual.

For the UW coaches, it meant there was more of an onus on the depth of relationships, which for Jimmy Lake and the rest of the staff is simply how they go about the recruiting process.

Over a year later the Huskies consistency has paid off with another major commitment.

Emeka Megwa, a 6-foot-1 and 220-pound running back out of Timer Creek High School in Fort Worth, Texas, announced his pledge Thursday afternoon to UW becoming the seventh commit in this years’ class.

Megwa made an official visit to Seattle this past weekend after he took an unofficial in early May for the UW Spring game. In between the two trips the four-star also stopped by at Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State and TCU, but in the end the Huskies won out.

Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman broke down Megwa and what UW is getting in the coveted running back.

"Megwa is an old-school, physical back that comes downhill with a head of steam and will require the attention of multiple defenders to bring down," Spiegelman said.

"The Fort Worth native checks in at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds and has a college-ready frame. While Megwa lacks breakaway speed, he's perfectly adept and barreling through defenders, running through tackles and earning short-yardage carries. Megwa ia also a solid receiver that could contribute on occasion. He also has enough athletic ability that could translate to a linebacker role, if necessary "

It marks the third consecutive class in which UW running backs coach Keith Bhonapha has landed a back from the Lone Star State.
