Washington extended an offer to 2017 four-star Austin (Tex.) Westlake outside linebacker Levi Jones a couple weeks ago, and it made an immediate impact.

"The Washington offer means a lot to me," Jones told Rivals.com. "It's very big because I like the pac-12 and Washington is a great school. We [Pete Kwiatkowski and Jones] talked about UDub and he explained the defense and how I can big a big part of the defense for them."

In their 2016 recruiting class the Huskies pulled one high-profile defensive prospect out of the LoneStar State in Levi Onwuzurike. Washington is again diving into the state and going hard after the four-star Austin, Texas prospect.

Currently, Washington has extended thirteen verbal offers to linebacker prospects in the 2017 class. While Jones just received his offer the Huskies have kept their eye on him for a long time and could be in line for a visit this summer.

"I'm definitely interested," Jones said of Washington. "I just have to take my time [and] learn more about the school before making anymore moves. It's hard [to visit] because I have a big family and we are always doing so much but we are gonna see if we can make it out there. Maybe the summer."

Given that Seattle and Austin are a signifiant distance, the most popular question with recruits in the state that receive interest from UW is the distance. However, having a couple brothers before him that went away to college, Jones doesn't see it being a problem.

"Well I have two older brothers who were pretty far from home and they said it wasn't to bad for them to leave home. I believe them and I don't think distance will be a big role."

Jones can play both inside and outside linebacker positions in the Washington defense. With the Huskies taking a small class this year, having athletes verses one-position prospects could make or break who they take a commitment from.

The four-star linebacker also said he plans on making his decision after his senior season at Westlake High School.
