2018 three-star Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy inside linebacker Jackson Sirmon has committed to Washington, Sirmon confirmed to Rivals. He joins his cousin, four-star quarterback Jacob Sirmon, as the first two commitments for the Huskies 2018 class.
Jackson took an unofficial visit to Washington this season for the Huskies 41-17 victory over Oregon State in October. He also visited Wisconsin, but felt the opportunity at Washington was too good to pass up.
"I just feel like I'll fit in well," Sirmon told Rivals of his decision to choose UW. "Great coaches and it's a good school with hard working guys playing there. He [UW Coach Chris Petersen] was pumped."
Washington is expected to take another relatively small class in 2018. With Sirmon securing one of the linebacker slots it leaves roughly one or two more moving forward for the Huskies.
For Sirmon, the three-star Tennessee prospect an son of ex-UW linebackers coach and University of Oregon alumni Peter Sirmon said it feels good to have his decision made. While the family ties could have swayed Sirmon to Mississippi State, where his father currently coaches, or a host of other offers Jackson said it's always been Washington.
"I'm not sure I think I've always thought I could see myself going there," Jackson said. "We [Jacob and Jackson] always thought it would be cool to play together so I'd say it helped some."
