Don James

Don
James was the winningest coach in Washington Husky History. During his 18 year
tenure, he compiled a 153-57-2 overall record. His 99 Pac-10 victories are the
most in Pac-10 history, in fact.
He took his teams to 15 bowl games (10-5) with one streak of 9 straight bowl
games from '79 to '87.
James coached the Huskies to six Rose Bowls and is one of the only four
coaches to win four Rose Bowl games.
His 1991 team finished the season 12-0 and won Washington's first ever
National Championship. When James retired from Washington prior to the '93
season, he had the 10th best active winning percentage, the 8th most victories
among active coaches, 4th most bowl victories, 4th best bowl winning percentage,
and the 12th most bowl appearances.
James was president of the American Football Coaches Association in 1989 and
was named national college coach of the year in 1984 and 1991.
James was inducted into the Husky Fall of Fame in 1993 and College Football
Hall of Fame in 1997. He and his wife, Carol, reside in Kirkland, Wa. and are
still active in Husky Booster activities, alumni activities, and all other
activities which surround the Husky Football Team.
