With already its best recruiting class secured Washington vaulted its 2018 haul into the top 10, beating out Alabama and USC for four-star Anaheim (Calif.) Servite safety Julius Irvin.
Rated as the No. 95 overall recruit in this years cycle by Rivals' player rankings Irvin becomes the third Rivals100 prospect to sign with UW in 2018. Irvin is the son of former Los Angeles Rams cornerback LeRoy Irvin, a two-time Pro Bowler who played from 1980-89.
Prior to the early signing period in December the Huskies beat out the Crimson Tide for four-star Reno (Nev.) linebacker Brandon Kaho, a long-time BYU verbal commit who flipped his commitment during an official visit.
"The cherry on top," said four-star wide receiver signee Austin Osborne, a close friend of Irvin, when asked the impact of the Huskies latest commitment.
One Pac-12 assistant coach who recruited Irvin early on in the process told Rivals, "I do think he's got some baller in him."
Irvin, a 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back is the third for newly promoted defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake. He joins four-star Everett (Wash.) Archbishop Murphy cornerback Kyler Gordon and three-star Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial cornerback / athlete Dominique Hampton, and is expected to be the final DB taken in the 2018 class for the Huskies.
The Huskies moved up four spots in the 2018 team recruiting rankings to No. 10, but could presumably jump a handful of other teams with two other four-star recruits visiting this weekend.
Irvin recorded 52 total tackles (39 solo), two tackles for loss, five interceptions and 11 passes defensed in 11 games as a senior for Servite.
