SEATTLE – Peyton Henry and Van Soderberg went toe-to-toe, almost literally, to end practice on Tuesday. UW has two more practices remaining this week before the coaches turn their attention to the season opener against Auburn.

Henry, a redshirt freshman from Danville, California, and Soderberg, a redshirt sophomore who lost his job to Tristian Vizcaino after missing two field goal attempts, the first from 27-yards and last from 21-yards, against Arizona State last season, have been vying for the job in camp along with walk-on Dylan Williams.

Following a stop on third down during the final team period of Tuesday’s practice, Henry hit the right upright from 38-yards for just his first miss on the day. Chris Petersen could be credited with icing his kicker, Henry ready to kick before the Huskies head coach held off on the attempt until the Allstate “good hands” netting went up.

The next two drives produced touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore Sean McGrew took three consecutive handoffs from No. 2 quarterback Jake Haener, punching it in on the final carry from the 2-yard line.

Malik Braxton, a walk-on redshirt junior listed as a transfer from Western Oregon, made a nice cut inside the 5-yard line to record a touchdown for the third team offense. He scored again to end the final 11-on-11 period before the kicking battle began.

Colson Yankoff led the third team offense while Jacob Sirmon came in for the final series. Yankoff connected with redshirt junior tight end Michael Neal for a third-down conversion to keep his drive alive.
