Nebraska receiver Will Nixon announces transfer to Washington

Kalen DeBoer and Washington are on a roll. For the third time this week, the Huskies have made a new addition to the program as Nebraska transfer receiver Will Nixon announced his plans to continue his career at UW after two seasons in Lincoln.

The 5-foot-11 freshman will play both receiver and running back for DeBoer's offense in Seattle giving the team another weapon to use at a position that is going through quite a bit of change this offseason.

Nixon has played in three games in his career, all during the 2021 season, with one catch for five yards coming in a game against Northwestern last fall. He was forced to sit out the 2020 season with an injury.

The Waco, Texas native is the son of current Carolina Panthers running backs coach who was previously at Baylor as well.

The Huskies have attacked the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason to make several key additions with Nixon being the latest to join the group after Virginia running back Wayne Taulapapa announcing his move to UW for the final season of his career earlier in the week.

Washington also picked up a commitment from 2023 receiver Keith Reynolds earlier in the week as well.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (Indiana), receiver Lonyatta Alexander (Arizona State) and linebacker Cam Bright (Pittsburgh) are some other key transfer additions the Huskies have made since DeBoer took over the program.

As a high school recruit from Waco's Midway High School, Nixon was rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals and one of the top 100 receivers in the 2020 class. He was ranked as the 86th-best recruit from Texas that year.

Baylor, Notre Dame, Penn State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Kansas State and Purdue all pursued Nixon as a high school prospect. One connection that he has to UW is current Huskies wide receivers coach and associated head coach JaMarcus Shephard, who recruited Nixon while at Purdue.

Nixon, who visited UW a few weeks ago, will have four seasons of remaining eligibility should he opt to use it.
