SEATTLE -- Washington was expected to take at most three days to complete its search for an offensive line coach, and did so Wednesday. UW announced the hiring of Boise State co-offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Scott Huff to replace Chris Strausser, who left Monday to become an assistant with the Denver Broncos.
As TheDawgReport.com first reported Wednesday morning the former Petersen assistant, Huff was considered the favorite following an interview this week. Huff served in various roles for all eight seasons under Petersen at Boise State.
"I've known Scott as a player and as a coach for a long time. He was one of my first hires as a newly-appointed head coach," Petersen said in a statement released by UW. "We're just thrilled to have him join us here."
When UW began its search to replace Strausser two candidates immediately emerged: Huff and Klayton Adams, currently the offensive line coach at Colorado. The former Broncos offensive lineman turned assistant coach wasn't expected to leave Boise, multiple sources told Rivals in the beginning of the process.
Both have previous ties with Petersen, but Huff is also has spent more time with the Huskies head coach as both a player and coach. That relationship was a major factor in Huff deciding to interview for the job, and subsequently become a part of Petersen's staff at UW.
Huff started 40 games for the Broncos from 1999-02 before becoming an assistant coach in 2006, Petersen's first season as head coach at Boise. He first served as the tight ends coach in '06 and again from 2010-13, while being the Broncos OL coach from 2007-09 totaling 11 seasons at his alma mater.
The hire completes UW's staff after recently hiring former Oregon offensive coordinator Matt Lubick as the teams co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. Lubick replaced Bush Hamdan, who became the quarterbacks coach with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this month.
