Scouting report: Oregon at Washington

Matchup: Oregon Ducks (10-3, 1-0) at Washington Huskies (7-5, 1-0)

Tipoff: Saturday, Dec. 31, 7 p.m. Pacific Time, Alaska Airlines Arena, Seattle, Wash.

TV, radio: ESPN 2 will broadcast the game; Dave Flemming and Sean Farnham will provide the coverage. The game will be broadcast on 950-AM and 102.9 FM. Bob Rondeau and Jason Hamilton will provide the coverage.

Coaches: Lorenzo Romar, Washington (10th year); Dana Altman, Oregon(second year)

Series: Washington owns a 185-104 lead over the Ducks in a series that started all the way back in 1904. Washington has also won 13 of the last 19 games, although the schools split last year, with each winning on its home court. The Huskies then beat the Ducks in the Pac-10 Tournament.

About the Ducks: Oregon is off to fast start as they are 10-3 and have won four straight, including a 92-75 win in Pullman to start Pac-12 play. They have had quite a bit of turnover as big recruit Jabari Brown left the team after just two games. Still though, they are led by a nice trio of Devoe Joseph (a transfer from Minnesota), Garrett Sim and E.J Singler. All three score in the double-figures and all can beat you on any given night. The Ducks' three losses have come against Vanderbilt, BYU and Virginia. They shoot the ball extremely well, but don't play defense at a consistent level

About the Huskies: Washington entered the season as the team to beat in the Pac-12, but have been anything but that. Still though, they looked much better in the Pac-12 opener as they beat Oregon State 95-80. They are led by a quartet of guards in Tony Wroten, Abdul Gaddy, Terrence Ross and C.J. Wilcox. Currently, though, Wroten is playing like a Player of the Year candidate. The Huskies score the ball at an extremely high clip, but they also struggle on defense at times. They've also struggled with free-throw shooting and turnovers.

What to look for: Washington has dominated Oregon in the past five years, but the Ducks basketball program is certainly on the way up. Still though, if the Huskies can play like they did against Oregon State, there is no way they'll fall to Oregon at home. Washington has the talent to excel over the Ducks, they just need to come out with energy and play like they're the underdog. The second they start getting cocky, they start playing reckless and lose to teams like South Dakota State. Romar will be key in keeping his team focused after a big win.
