Washington was without sophomore wide receiver Chico McClatcher for its road game against Oregon, due to an unspecified injury per a university spokesman. McClatcher, third in touchdown receptions for UW, will return for the Huskies' next game against Oregon State on Oct. 22, a source with knowledge of the situation told Rivals.
Heading into the game McClatcher was at 85-percent, the source said, with the ability to run and sprint. The sophomore receiver was diagnosed with a sprained knee, with the feeling that it wasn't worth risking a prolonged injury should he have played vs Oregon.
The decision proved wise by the coaching staff as Washington routed Oregon 70-21, ending the streak. It also gives the Husky offense confidence to lose a signifiant piece and still maintain its explosiveness both on the ground and through the air.
Last season McClatcher scored one of his three rushing touchdowns in 2015 against the Beavers, amassing five yards on two carries. UW defeated Oregon State 52-7 in Reser Stadium, and the return of McClatcher this season is likely to produce another blowout.
Following the Oregon victory, Petersen said of the injuries to McClatcher and senior right guard Shane Brostek "I think we’ll see, but we think we’re going to have them back for our next game. That’s what we think, but you never know. Some guys recover faster than you think and slower, but right now we think we’ll have them back.”
