Washington Junior Cornerback Brandon Lewis Has Decided to Medically Retire

Washington redshirt junior cornerback Brandon Lewis announced via Facebook his decision to medically retire from football, citing a recent knee surgery as the final tipping point.

Lewis was one of the original 23 to sign in the class of 2014, just three months after UW hired Chris Petersen as head coach. The three-star recruit out of Pleasant Grove High School (Elk Grove, California) first committed to Petersen in the spring of 2013 while he was at Boise State.

Once the offer came from Petersen and defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake at Washington, the decision to flip came in the same day as his de-committment form the Broncos.

"Brandon Lewis is a guy that we’ve been on a long time when we were at Boise," Petersen said on Signing Day back in 2014. "Great, great student. Extremely high academics. He had just been injured, so he missed a lot of time. Had he not been (injured), I think he would’ve been pursued by a lot of people.”

Lewis redshirted his true freshmen season in 2014 before playing just 17 games over the next two seasons (he played in all 12 games in 2015). From the original class only seventeen remain on the Huskies roster, two have gone onto the NFL (Budda Baker and Sidney Jones), and four have been dismissed from the program.
