LB Deven Bryant details the factors behind his Washington commitment

Washington picked up a commitment from three-star linebacker Deven Bryant on Sunday, as the standout from St. John Bosco HS in Bellflower, Calif., became the third pledge in this 2023 recruiting class for the Huskies.

Bryant joins three-star ATH/RB Tybo Rogers (Bakersfield, Calif.) and three-star ATH Keith Reynolds (Adelanto, Calif.).

Bryant led national power St. John Bosco with 86 tackles over 11 games, adding 4 sacks.

"I would say what convinced me into making my decision was really seeing the defense in action and UW had always been a top school for me," Bryant told Dawg Report. "UW had all the things that I was looking for in a university from a football to education so it was a no brainer I was also comfortable with the Staff and they made me feel like family."

Bryant took two visits to Washington, connected well with the new coaching staff and current players and saw everything he needed, from facilities to the defensive style with new co-coordinator/LBs coach William Inge, to convince him he was ready to announce his decision.

"I took two trips out there and nothing really surprised me. I would say I guess I was just impressed by the facilities and campus. Also, all the players that I talked to were pretty cool," Bryant said. "What mainly stood out to me about their defense was the way the linebacker got to the ball and took charge of the defense. The defense was a good fit for me because the scheme is similar to what I run in high school right now."

Again, Bryant is one of the early commitments for new Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff, and from everything he's seen and heard he believes in the vision and new direction for the program.

"What gives me confidence that the new staff will get the program moving in the right direction is that they have a plan put in place and the culture that they are building with the players are unique," Bryant said.
