Newly appointed Washington men's basketball head coach Mike Hopkins has already spoken with one 2017 signee since his hiring Sunday, hoping to keep some Lorenzo Romar's star-studded class.

Three-star point guard Blake Harris announced Tuesday he has received his release from his National Letter of Intent from UW, the first recruit to publicly announce his release. Harris committed to Romar and assistant coach Raphael Chillious in July 2016 with the relationship between he and both UW coaches playing a central role in the decision.

Harris told Rivals.com on Tuesday he has already spoken with the Huskies coach, calling Hopkins a "great man" after their conversation folllowing his hiring.

However, despite the conversation between Harris and Hopkins, the point guard is now focused on his other options.

"Just about his background," Harris said of his conversation with Hopkins. "UW is a great place but I'm exploring other options."
