LB Jordan Whitney breaks down his Washington commitment

Nobody in the Pac-12 is having a week quite like the Washington Huskies, who continue to rack up commitments.

That included three-star linebacker Jordan Whitney, from Oxnard, Calif., who chose Washington over Arizona while on his official visit in Seattle.

"It was just a feeling. I got the feeling that UW was the place for me so I trusted my gut and made the decision," he told Dawg Report.

Washington has reeled in eight commitments this week now -- three-star DE Jacob Lane (Puyallup, Wash.), three-star CB Diesel Gordon (Seguin, Texas), three-star DE Anthony James (Wylie, Texas), three-star OT Zachary Henning (Aurora, Colo.), three-star ATH Vincent Holmes (San Jacinto, Calif.) Whitney, three-star OL Elishah Jackett (Orange, Calif.) and DE Sua Lefotu (Bellflower, Calif.).

The Huskies are up to 12 commits overall in the 2023 recruiting class, ranking 33rd in the Rivals team rankings.

"I definitely think it’s the coaches," Whitney said of that momentum. "These coaches are really genuine and trustworthy."

Whitney told Dawg Report a couple weeks ago what appealed to him about the Washington program.

"I got to talk to [co-DC/LBs coach William] Inge about their defense, how they run the defense, where I would fit in the defense and I really like the defense. Coach Inge did a great job of telling me how I was going to be developed and how I was going to be coached if I were to go to Washington," Whitney said. "... Every coach that's a part of that staff has at least reached out to me once. It's not a feeling of, we're recruiting you but not as hard -- they make me feel like they're really recruiting me. Every coach is always checking up on me, 'How's school, how's football, how's the family?' They really show me that they want to recruit me and they want me to be there."

And that feeling was reinforced this weekend on his official visit over the weekend.

"I would say it was the presentation from [UW director of player personnel] Courtney Morgan. The whole presentation was great the presentation overall showed me how I compared to NFL linebackers -- for example, one being Shaq Thompson, and how I can be developed into the best I can be," Whitney said. "I got a good feeling after the presentation and that was the moment when I realized that UW was the place for me."
